![]() It would make it very difficult for Blizzard to do a Diablo II remaster because all the assets we used are pretty much gone. “We lost a lot of the assets, art assets. finally rebuilt a lot of it through what people had at their homes.” We were supposed to have a backup but neglected it. This story came out last November, and had quotes from the creators of the franchise including Max and Eric Schafer, who said: In the wake of publishing, I’ve been digging a little deeper into this and have been reminded of a story from about six months ago where it was revealed that due to an error 20 years ago when Diablo 2 launched, the entire backup of the game’s source code and assets was lost. I really hope this does make it out for the holiday. So, I would lend some weight to this rumor, both because of the source, and because of common sense. No word on what the Stone of Jordan economy might be like when it returns. Given that you can still play original Diablo 2 now and get hopelessly addicted, I have to believe a proper remaster would have the same effect. We know the somewhat odd PvE expansion of Overwatch, called Overwatch 2 despite its questionable credentials as a true sequel, is on the way, but definitely not in time for this holiday.ĭiablo 4 is also on the distant horizon, and though we have seen a decent amount of footage from it, it is still likely to be a few years away, so this release would scratch that Diablo itch in the meantime. Why is this coming now? Because Blizzard, as ever, is not exactly being terribly timely with its releases.
